Aaranya Kandam – For the first time I am writing a movie review on my blog and I strongly feel that this movie is worth of sharing. There are certain reasons to write a review about this movie, one is SPB Charan for giving chances for debutant directors through this Capital Film Works and for the awesome direction of the newcomer Thiagarajan Kumararaja. The film is definitely stands out of the crowd in the Tamil/India Cinema. The film’s narration style reminds me much of Quentin Tarantino’s movies and Robert Rodriguez’s Mariachi Trilogy, Sin City, etc. No wonder it has won numerous awards in the international film festivals and world premieres.

Aaranya Kandam in literature describes the fight between Lord Rama and Vaali in the jungle which happens after Seetha is being kidnapped by Ravaan. Ram won this fight in a dishonest way and later justifies that it is not wrong to kill a wrong person by means.

Okay let’s come to the Movie! This film is all about the lives of a six different people that happens in a single day and how humans react when they unexpected situations. Jackie Shroff, Sampath Raj, Ravi Krishna, and newcomers Yasmin Ponnappa, Somasundaram and Master Vasanth are exceptional in their characters. The film has been penned with sharp dialogues that you have never heard of in any Tamil Films. The film’s climax took has an unpredicted twist that you would have never imagined. It is very sad to see such a great movie to have 52 censor cuts from the Regional Censor Board. But I really wish to see the entire movie (the uncut version) at least in a DVD Version. This is one the best movies that I have come across in my life. I would rate this movie 4/5.
